Senior Multiplayer & Online Engineer – Relocation to Australia

An award-winning game studio in Melbourne is searching for a Senior Multiplayer & Online Engineer to play a central role in building the online architecture for a new cross-platform title being developed in Unity. The studio offers full relocation support from the U.S. (or globally) —including visa sponsorship, travel assistance, and resettlement logistics.

This is a rare opportunity to shape the multiplayer systems and online features of a new game with a passionate, world-class team. The position is open to engineers who thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy solving technical challenges related to real-time co-op gameplay, backend integration, and live game operations.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Architecting and developing real-time multiplayer systems and online features for a new cross-platform title.
  • Working closely with tech directors, engineers, and backend partners to prototype and implement production-quality service integrations.
  • Leading the design of online gameplay subsystems, including co-op, chat, authentication, telemetry, commerce, cloud saves, and live events.
  • Contributing to network performance optimisation and cost-effective backend hosting solutions that meet AAA standards.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentorship to internal and external developers.
  • Partnering with leads across disciplines to align on tech milestones, best practices, and production schedules.
  • Documenting system architecture and backend components.
  • Learning and adopting new technologies as required by the project.
What You’ll Bring:
  • 7+ years of professional experience shipping high-quality PC or console games.
  • Expertise in C# and C++, with proven Unity development experience across multiple titles.
  • Strong knowledge of network programming, multiplayer game development, and online service integration.
  • Prior console development experience(Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft) is essential.
  • Proficiency in debugging, rapid prototyping, and system architecture documentation.
  • Bonus experience with Java, Kotlin, or TypeScript for backend customization is highly regarded.
  • Familiarity with RPGs, simulation games, outsourcing workflows, or machine learning applications is a plus.
Location & Work Model:
  • Based in Melbourne, Australia.
  • Relocation support provided from the U.S. or other international locations.
  • Hybrid or on-site work model.
