A Queensland State Government department is seeking an experienced Communications Officer to support the delivery of a major regional infrastructure program.
This position will provide professional, specialised expertise in communications, media, public relations, graphic design, and community and stakeholder engagement to support the successful delivery of projects across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Liaise closely with residents impacted by works affecting property access or occurring in close proximity to their homes, maintaining positive and professional relationships with the community.
- Coordinate Notice of Entry requirements and communicate directly with residents regarding works to be undertaken on private property.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Communications Plans in collaboration with regional communications teams.
- Develop and implement communication strategies to inform the public of upcoming works and project impacts.
- Prepare and distribute communication materials including media releases, project flyers, website content, ministerial correspondence, and community updates (print and digital).
- Act as the first point of contact for project enquiries, manage records within consultation systems, and support the preparation of timely responses.
- Draft and issue traffic alerts and ensure online traffic platforms are current and accurate.
- Liaise with regional and local council communications teams during construction phases to ensure alignment and awareness of potential impacts.
- Identify and engage relevant stakeholders, including those outside the immediate project footprint who may have an interest in project outcomes.
- Monitor local events that may impact traffic flow or project delivery.
- Support Safety, Environment and Quality teams with communications and messaging requirements.
- Share project updates and positive stories across internal engagement platforms.
- Prepare meeting minutes and assist in coordinating project-related events and signage requirements.
- Provide communications advice to project teams to support effective stakeholder outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience in communications, media, public relations, and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for diverse audiences.
- Experience developing communications plans and associated collateral.
- Ability to manage sensitive community interactions with professionalism and sound judgement.
- Highly organised with the capacity to manage competing priorities within a project environment.
- Experience within government, infrastructure, construction, or major projects will be highly regarded.
