We’re seeking an experienced Senior SQL DBA to join a high-performing infrastructure team on a 6-month contract. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional with deep on-premises SQL Server expertise, strong troubleshooting capability, and a passion for maintaining high availability, performance, and security of critical database environments.
You’ll play a key role in supporting and optimising enterprise-scale SQL Server environments, ensuring stability across mission-critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and administer SQL Server databases in on-prem environments
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve performance and availability issues
- Perform backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning/testing
- Implement and maintain high availability solutions(Always On, clustering, log shipping)
- Conduct database performance tuning and query optimisation
- Oversee patching, upgrades, and migrations
- Collaborate with infrastructure and application teams to ensure seamless operations
- Ensure data security, compliance, and best practice standards are upheld
- Proven experience as a Senior SQL DBA in enterprise environments
- Strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft SQL Server (2012–2019+)
- Deep experience managing on-prem SQL Server infrastructure
- Solid understanding of:
- Backup/recovery strategies
- High availability (Always On, failover clustering)
- Performance tuning and monitoring tools
- Experience with PowerShell scripting for automation
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent stakeholder communication
- Experience supporting hybrid environments (on-prem + Azure)
- Exposure to database security, compliance, and auditing
- Familiarity with DevOps practices or CI/CD pipelines
