They are a nationally recognised organisation operating at significant scale, with a large, complex store network across Australia.
Right now, they are in the middle of a major transformation of their in-store technology environment – modernising their Point of Sale platform and the broader ecosystem that supports it.
This isn’t a greenfield startup, but it does come with similar levels of impact. You’ll be stepping into an environment where systems are business-critical, highly visible, and directly tied to revenue across hundreds of stores.
The Opportunity
This is a genuinely unique opportunity to take ownership of a national POS platform and help shape how it evolves across a large retail estate.
You won’t just be maintaining a system – you’ll be responsible for defining how it operates, scales, and integrates across the wider business.
From architecture and integrations through to incident management and platform stability, this role sits at the centre of a highly complex ecosystem.
You’ll also have the opportunity to put your own stamp on the platform – influencing standards, ways of working, and technical direction across a national environment, rather than inheriting something fully set in stone.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Acting as the technical authority across the POS platform and its wider ecosystem
- Providing architectural oversight across POS, self-checkout, back office, and store systems
- Owning integrations across ERP, payments, loyalty platforms, and enterprise systems
- Leading incident management for critical store outages and driving root cause analysis
- Defining and improving CI/CD pipelines, deployment strategies, and automation
- Driving performance, stability, and security across a high-availability environment
- Partnering with stakeholders across operations, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and engineering
- Mentoring engineers and building internal capability within the platform
- Strong experience working with retail POS systems in large-scale environments
- Proven ability to operate as a technical lead across complex, multi-system architectures
- Deep understanding of retail transaction flows (sales, refunds, promotions, loyalty)
- Experience supporting or leading L3/L4 environments and major incident management
- Strong integration experience across enterprise systems and platforms
- Solid understanding of infrastructure, networking, and system performance in retail environments
- Ability to operate autonomously and influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Open source knowledge (Python, Java etc)
- Windows POS environments
- Linux / virtualisation (Proxmox or similar)
- CI/CD (Azure DevOps, Git)
- Scripting and automation tools (e.g. Ansible)
- Monitoring and observability tooling
- Security tooling (e.g. Qualys, Defender)
- Networking fundamentals (VLANs, firewalls, TLS)
- Own and shape a business-critical platform across a national retail footprint
- High-impact role with direct influence on architecture and technical direction
